Why is spaying and neutering our pets so important this time of year?
| This time of year is one of the main breeding seasons for animals - your house pet included. Abandoning animals or leaving them outside, unsupervised can lead to unwanted pregnancy and the potential for more abandoned, stray, and feral animals. Did you know that in three years, one unspayed female and one unneuterd male cat, and all of their kittens, can produce 2,201 cats? By year seven, this number tops 420,715! In six years, one female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs! (All statistics from www.spay.org). |
| Please, if you plan to let your dog or cat out to roam this summer, be responsible: spay and neuter first. Also, don't forget about vaccinations, tests, and flea/tick medications. If you think you are unable to afford these procedures, contact your local veterinarian or animal shelter as there are program options available.
